The National Customs Service of Chile together with the Army and Carabineros of San Pedro managed to seize more than 22 kilos of marijuana, in an operation carried out in the route 27 CH, Hito Cajón sector, in the Antofagasta Region (north).
This coordinated effort allowed the drugs to be detected in a van with three individuals who were trying to cross the border through an unauthorized crossing, according to the official text.
There, Customs inspectors found 21 packages inside the suitcase that the subjects were carrying in the vehicle thanks to an exhaustive review. In addition to this, they discovered More than 1.200 edible products without health certification corresponding within which there were cheeses, raw peanuts, energy drinks, milk, sunflower seeds, among others, which if marketed put people's health at risk.
El Regional Director of Antofagasta Customs, Francisco Romero, He highlighted the joint work: "Our Service actively participates in the security table of our Region, where concrete and permanent actions are coordinated that give this type of results. In this case, the adequate communication between the agencies that supervise the unauthorized crossings, such as the Carabineros and the Army, with Customs, in charge of the authorized crossings, allowed our inspectors to find this significant amount of drugs, preventing it from reaching the neighborhoods of Antofagasta."
Once the presence of narcotic substances was confirmed by field tests, the situation was reported to the prosecutor on duty at the Public Prosecutor's Office. The detainees were placed under detention control for the crimes of violating Law 20.000 on drug control and smuggling.
As a result of the procedure, the drug was prevented from being marketed in Antofagasta with a commercial value exceeding 10 million pesos.
