The Administrative Commission of the Agreement of Trade Integration between Argentina and Chile held the second meeting on Tuesday (18.04.2023/XNUMX/XNUMX), where the following were held: Significant progress in rules of origin, trade facilitation, among other chapters, reported the Argentine Foreign Ministry.

The delegations were headed by Ambassador Claudia Sanhueza Riveros, Undersecretary of International Economic Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Chile, and the Secretary of International Economic Negotiations, Cecilia Todesca Bocco.

At the meeting, both parties highlighted the growth of bilateral trade, which is registering values higher than those of the period before the pandemic. In 2022, total trade reached USD 5.797 million, 60,7% higher than in 2019. In this period, Argentina registered exports to Chile for USD 5.020 million, with a growth of 63,5% compared to 2019, and imports for USD 778 million, 45% higher than in 2019.

Favored by the reform of the original regime of the bilateral Agreement (Additional Protocol 65 to ACE 35, in force since April 13, 2021), the automotive sector experienced a 137% growth in the bilateral exchange of vehicles and auto parts in 2022 (compared to 2020), reaching exports of USD 624.

In terms of investments, Argentina receives 16,6% of the total invested by Chile in the world (reaching a total of USD 22.512 million). Investments with Chilean capital are diversified in several sectors: services, food and beverages, metalworking and metallurgy, chemical industry, energy, forestry and mining, and have a positive impact on employment. For Argentine companies, the Chilean market has become a strategic destination in terms of franchises, positioning itself as the third destination in this field after Paraguay and Uruguay.

During the meeting signed technical agreements for the interoperability of digital signature systems, necessary for the implementation of the Mutual Recognition Agreement for Digital Signature Certificates. These actions will allow the digital signature to have the same value as the handwritten signature, in both countries. During the meeting, the National Commission for the Defense of Competition (Argentina) and the National Economic Prosecutor's Office (Chile) signed a cooperation agreement on institutional strengthening and development.

In terms of trade facilitation, significant advances were made in automation, as a result of the Joint work of Customss of both countries, thus improving the electronic transmission of information (recorded in the International Cargo Manifest/Customs Transit Declaration) necessary for the transit of goods. In addition, both Customs Offices updated reference tables of operational locations, customs, packaging and cities, which will reduce rejections in transmissions through the SINTIA system.

The delegations stressed that they will continue working on regional coordination.
